Community Relations Director

JOB TITLE: Community Relations Director
 
BASIC FUNCTION: Deals with executives of private industry and the public sector in a courteous, diplomatic manner. Develops monthly newsletter, schedules and promotes Business After Hours, and records weekly News & Views segments. Assists in special projects related to Chamber programs, public relations, information systems development, and membership development. Performs other duties as assigned by Chamber Executive Director.
 
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
 Membership/Marketing Plan:

  • Membership Sales – Follow-up on membership leads, explain membership benefits and finalize membership sales. Maintain membership relations.
  • Follow-up with all non-renewing or past-due members.
  • In conjunction with Executive Director, develops and implements marketing plan strategies for new member development including support and implementation of membership drive activities.
  • In conjunction with Executive Director, works to assure membership retention through visitation of member businesses, familiarization of members’ services and products, and personal contacts with members.
  • Develops and updates membership materials including New Member Onboarding Package, Membership Brochures, and miscellaneous marketing materials.
Newsletter:
  • Serve as editor of the official Chamber Newsletter, obtaining, writing, and editing articles, securing advertising (when applicable).
Committees:
  • Provides the necessary liaison and staff support to committee chairpersons and committees as assigned, to enable them to properly perform their functions. Sees that committee decisions and recommendations are submitted to the Board of Directors for approval.
Computer:
  • Maintain those computer files used in conjunction with the performance of duties in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Maintains pertinent web pages and social media accounts. 
Events:
  • Supports Executive Director to plan and execute events including: Annual Membership Dinner, Coast Guard Appreciation Dinner, ComFish, Crab Fest, and any additional events added to the schedule.
 
Overall skills required:
  • Effective sales presentation
  • Public speaking/interviewing skills
  • Knowledge of advertising and promotional media including preparation of visual & audio campaigns
  • Writing skills to ensure reports and effective press releases with minimum supervision
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems, Adobe, WordPress, Canva or Photoshop, etc.
 
Required Associated Activities:
  • Participation at regularly scheduled and special general membership meetings, Forums, Business After Hours, Chamber sponsored activities including Crab Fest and ComFish and others as directed.
  • Coordinate schedule of hosts for Business After Hours.
 
Support Services:
  • Seek to maintain calm and efficient office environment.
  • Coordinate schedule of hosts.
  • Maintain office and workspace in a clean, neat, and presentable fashion.
  • Maintain a neat, well groomed appearance.
  • Seek to develop good working relationships with Chamber staff, Chamber members, and Board of Directors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
