Are you looking for a summer job? We would love to have you join the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce as our Supervisor for the Youth Litter Patrol Crew for the summer season 2025! The start date for our Summer Litter Patrol is June 16th and the program runs through mid to late August. The Litter Patrol Supervisor is responsible for the youth litter team at all times, watching out for safety, conduct and production.  The Supervisor works with the crew as coordinator, and litter‑picker‑upper; fills out time sheets, passes out and collects vests, bags, etc. and is in charge.
 
POSITION SUMMARY: The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce is hiring a Supervisor for our Summer Litter Patrol Program. Each summer the Chamber hires 4 or more youth litter patrol employees along with 1 supervisor to fill summer position offers a great opportunity to earn money, build job skills, and make a difference in the local environment. Youth Litter Patrol members work together to collect litter and help beautify streets, parks, trails, and the adjacent beaches—enhancing the community while learning about environmental responsibility.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Litter Patrol Supervisor will have overall responsibility for youth litter patrol team members. Responsibility shall include but not be limited to: 
  1. Direct supervision of assigned youth litter teams ensuring safety and modeling productive behavior.  Redirect and motivate if needed. 
  2. Coordinate patrol sites; encourage recycling efforts, separate recyclables (e.g., aluminum, tin cans) from trash when possible.
  3. Demonstrate safety features of equipment; distribute safety equipment including vests, eye protections, gloves, trash grabbers and other equipment. Ensure youth comply with safety procedures.
  4. Oversee Youth Litter Pick Up & Assist in the proper disposal of Waste/Trash/Garbage Collected using provided safety gear and tools.
  5. Overall conduct and actions of youths; ensure that youths are properly dressed for work, complete with gloves, vests, rain gear if necessary, and work shoes or boots.
  6. Ensure safe and productive areas are available for patrol to work in; coordinate with Executive Director areas to be cleaned; provide transportation to and from work area daily. 
  7. Ensure that all youth wear vests and that safety vests are accounted for daily; that any recyclable items are separated by patrol members and turned in at recycle center. 
  8. Maintain daily records of activities, bags collected, including youth timesheets. Report any problems or accidents immediately to the Executive Director.  Submit Daily reports as required.
  9. Demonstrate respect for the public, and the environment.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be between 18 years or older
  2. High School Diploma or GED, Higher Education & Related Experience Preferred.
  3. Commitment to punctuality, safety, and a strong work ethic.
  4. Willingness to work outdoors, including in light rain or cool weather.
  5. Valid Alaska Drivers License and a satisfactory driving record
