Description
Kodiak Maritime Museum will again host the 2021 Kodiak Harbor Lights Festival on Saturday, December 18. The museum has hosted the event since 2013. As in previous years, commercial and sport boat owners are encouraged to decorate their vessels with lights to celebrate the holiday season. Weather permitting, a parade of decorated boats will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, December 18, one mile northeast of Fuller’s Boat Yard, proceed southwest through the Near Island Channel, and disperse off the City Dock at Pier 2. The parade can be viewed from both sides of the channel and will be live-streamed online.
Participating boats must monitor VHF Channels 16 and 12, maintain a no‐wake speed, and keep a safe distance between vessels. On-scene coordinating will be done on Channel 12 and an online safety briefing for participating boat captains will be held via Zoom at 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 18.
Due to Kodiak's variable winter weather, the boat parade may be re‐scheduled or canceled entirely. Should the parade be canceled, vessel owners are encouraged to keep their vessels tied in St. Paul and St. Herman harbors, where they can be viewed from harbor‐side streets or the harbor floats.
Depending on COVID ‐19 restrictions, a Harbor Lights reception may be held in the Harbor Convention Center on the evening of the event. This will allow people to get out of the cold, enjoy cookies and hot cocoa, visit with friends, and listen to live holiday choir music. KMM will work with Kodiak’s Emergency Operations Center on whether or how an indoor reception can be held safely this year.
Best Decorated Boat Contest
KMM will award prizes for the top three decorated boats.
Corporate and business sponsorships.
To help with project costs, KMM is seeking financial sponsorships of individual participating vessels from the fleet and the business community.
